2 chicken breasts or 4 thighs (Tesco £2.50), 1 liter chicken stock (2 stock cubes), 2 carrots, 1 onion, handful small pasta or rice (optional), dried herbs

Dice chicken and vegetables. Place in pan with stock. Bring to boil. Reduce heat. Simmer 35-40 minutes. Add pasta/rice if using for last 10 minutes. Season to taste. Cool and freeze portions or eat immediately.
